This summer, we saw a battered and tired American democracy start to reawaken and rise up. And now, in just 95 days, we’ll decide whether it was a summer fling, or the real deal.
For the past decade, it’s felt like America forgot who she was. We used to be the place that welcomed people from every corner of the world—invited them to build lives here, become Americans, and help shape this country’s future. We believed diversity wasn’t a weakness—it was one of our greatest strengths.
Then came the years of walls and fences. The message to the world was clear: you’re no longer welcome here. Slowly, America stopped feeling like the America so many of us believed in.
But something unexpected happened this summer: the World Cup came to the U.S. Fans from around the globe poured into cities across the country. And instead of the America they’d been warned about, they found something else.
They found strangers striking up conversations. Norwegian fans rowing through Manhattan. Brazilian samba dancers filling the streets of Miami. Scottish bagpipers marching through Boston. Neighborhoods celebrating together in dozens of languages.
Visitors fell in love with America again—and Americans remembered what it felt like to welcome the world. For the first time in a long time, America felt like America again.
Now comes the real question and the hard work: was it just a summer thing, or the actual rebirth of our democracy?
The midterms are just 95 days away. The clock is ticking.
Every text you send is a pass. Every postcard moves the ball downfield. Every voter you register brings us one step closer to the goal.
So volunteer! Donate! Do whatever you can, every day you can, in these last 95 days. So when the final whistle blows in November, we’ll all be cheering the victory of the America we rediscovered this summer.
