DO IT FOR JOHN LEWIS
Volunteer, donate, register Democrats!
March 7, 1965. Bloody Sunday. A 25 year-old John Lewis leads 600 peaceful marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, demanding the simple right to register to vote. State troopers beat him viciously.
They break his skull. Four months later, he breaks their system.
When President Johnson signs into law the Voting Rights Act – the most powerful voting rights legislation in American history, banning literacy tests, poll taxes, and all the Jim Crow tricks designed to silence Black voices – this law doesn’t just change policy.
It transforms a nation.
All because John Lewis and thousands of freedom fighters understood a truth we must never forget: when you fight for the right to vote, you fight for the right to change everything.
John Lewis bled for this right. Every Democrat we register honors his sacrifice. Every vote we secure advances his dream. And when we restore a Democratic White House, Senate and House in 2028, our very first order of business must be to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Yes, these are tough times. But we are tougher. John Lewis’ dream of democracy was so powerful not even death could stop it. John Lewis lives on in all we do. In our peaceful fight. In our joyous work. In our unstoppable march toward progress.
Register to vote HERE. Sign up HERE for a peaceful protest near you later today. Ask everyone at the protest if they are registered, and if they’re not, register them with Voterizer.org. If you’re in Southern California, join me at the Pasadena Rally HERE, where I’ll be speaking. And turn our democratic dream into reality by helping us at Field Team 6 register more Democrats to vote every day! Volunteer HERE - donate to fuel our outreach HERE - and let’s get into some good trouble, necessary trouble!
