HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN
A rally for abortion rights, still mo' swing state texting, and an election night watch party!
Can you feel it?
The surge? The crackle?
The electricity of being on the precipice of history?
Leonard Cohen sings, “There is a crack, a crack in everything. It’s how the light gets in.”
Can you feel the world cracking open like an egg right now?
All of us activists across the country, we are not only blessed to be alive at this moment – we have the honor of being the midwives in this rebirth of democracy. At 100 years old, in hospice for 21 months, Jimmy Carter’s goal was to live long enough to vote for Kamala.
He did. On the first day of early voting in Georgia.
And so did 328,000 fellow Georgians, who more than doubled the state’s previous record for voting turnout on day one. Georgia won’t be the only state with this kind of surge.
Heroes are showing up everywhere. A Georgia judge blocked the absurd Trumpist mandate to hand count ballots – and ruled that local election officials must certify election results, which will forestall some of the chaos they intended to create. Elsewhere, the Nebraska Supreme Court restored voting rights to former felons.
A new Cook poll shows Harris up 10 points among the newly registered. This is our moment. With 19 days left, help us register every single new Democrat in every swing state, right up until close of polls on Election Day in our Final Five states that allow same-day registration: Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, Maryland for the Senate, and California for the House!
You know the plan: Volunteer - Donate - Win! And if you keep showing up like you have been, we are going to win bigger than any of the polls or pundits are predicting.
– Jason Berlin, Founder, Field Team 6
Here are a couple things (among the many, many options) to do coming up this next week and beyond:
#1 - Saturday, October 19th at 11a PT/2p ET. SLIGHTLY LESS MASSIVE SWING STATE TEXTBANKING! While the voter registration deadline has passed in a few states, voting has begun in earnest in others, and most are still registering. These states will decide who wins the Electoral College.
And we know for a fact that it works. In the 2022 cycle, 30% of the folks we texted registered as Dems or Indies – exactly who we'll need to win the White House, the Senate, and take back the House. So join us as we text WELL OVER 1 million unregistered likely Democratic voters. Sign up HERE!
Can't make the text bank? You can still donate HERE to help us fund the effort. It costs us $40,000 to send 1 million texts (and keep it free for all volunteers), and we'll do it every week that our budget allows. (If you donate by Zelle, you can donate without paying fees that don’t make it to FT6).
#2 – Sunday, October 20th, at 1:30pm ET. RALLY FOR ABORTION RIGHTS IN THE BIG APPLE! Hey, New Yorkers — join Planned Parenthood of Greater NY Action Fund and other activist groups as they rally in support of Prop 1 to codify New Yorkers’ right to control their own bodies! Corner of Bleeker Street and 6th Avenue. Sign up HERE!
Bonus in-person event: ELECTION WATCH PARTY IN LA! Join us November 5th from 7-10pm PT (or maybe 11) at a bar in Echo Park, and together let's usher in a rebirth of democracy, alongside a mighty crew of rowdy Field Team 6 Resistance Heroes! This will be a crazy, anxiety-filled kind of party! We will most likely not know the ultimate results of the election when the party ends. But after the years of work we all have put in, it will be great to be together at this crucial moment in history. Cash bar, pizzas delivered. Capacity limited to 150, and signups are limited, so RSVP HERE!
Bonus swag: Look snazzy as you save the world: check out our "Register" T-shirt and sweatshirt collection! The tops come in a slew of different colors and patterns, and they all have an easy-to-scan QR code on the back that takes people right to Voterizer.org where they can register to vote! It's a multi-purpose shirt – the Swiss Army knife of clothing! Slip into something more democratic and shop HERE!
Early returns look promising. If volunteer energy and voter enthusiasm mean anything, then the heavy turnout in early voting bodes well, and further suggests the efforts of the Field Team 6 volunteer (30,000 strong) and donor army are bearing fruit.
