First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.
That’s exactly what happened with the Epstein files. This was a cause without nuance – a straight-up fight against the darkest evil imaginable. And precisely because this evil directly implicates President Trump, the common wisdom was that any progress would be impossible.
The grassroots, the political first responders, stood up and insisted the Epstein files be released. Across many organizations, across many outreach methods, across the country, we did it so relentlessly that our elected leaders noticed, and joined the chorus.
With our momentum fueling them, they pushed relentlessly too, making it so important it became an issue Adelita Grijalva ran on… And WON on.
Then that momentum became unstoppable – even drawing in so many Republicans that Trump himself was forced to endorse it to avoid appearing as powerless as he actually was!
The end result of this organizing: a vote of 427 to 1 in the House, followed by unanimous passage by the Senate. Breathtaking.
Of course Trump will continue to fight it, but regardless of that, we need to count this as a MASSIVE victory for organizing. And we need to keep this momentum going!
