We often talk about politics being local because elections have powerful local consequences, like whether you can access safe birth control, public schools, or clean drinking water. It's easy to forget that our elections have a huge impact far beyond our own borders. This week made that starkly clear.
Trump's election fueled Putin's worst expansionist tendencies. This week Trump all but invited Russia to invade our NATO allies if they don't meet non-binding defense spending targets, jeopardizing the global security alliance that's kept the peace in Europe for 80 years. And Trump's lackeys in the House are stalling funding that could cause Ukraine to lose the war to Russia. If Putin topples democracy there, his armies will be at NATO's door - and we could face World War III.
All this and Trump isn't even in the White House. Imagine the international chaos if Trump were to beat Biden.
Here's the other side: the global impact of your activism. Because Field Team 6 volunteers, alongside progressive activists nationwide, helped elect Biden in 2020, our democracy still stands. Because our democracy still stands, we were able to help Ukraine in their hour of need, and against all odds, their democracy still stands. Biden and the other Democrats you helped elect passed the biggest climate investment in history, which helps the entire world. And under Biden's guidance the U.S. has enjoyed the strongest economic recovery of the G7, which in turn strengthens the global economy.
Democracy lives on because of heroes like you. Every postcard you write, text you send, call you make, dollar you donate, and Democrat you register brings us one step closer to stopping the orange fascist and saving democracy, here and around the world.
