THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS
Text Arcade with Jocelyn Benson, Double Trouble with Hubbell, bonus podcast
In the dark times after Trump's election, we prayed the Mueller investigation would save us. It did not.
But we didn't just pray.
To fight the darkness, millions of us also turned our prayers into concrete action. After the Women's March kicked off the Resistance, we learned how to register voters and get out the vote. We poured our time and money into the work.
And in 2018, we flipped the House overwhelmingly Democratic.
In the next two years, we hoped impeachment would stop Trump and save us. It did not. And a mismanaged global pandemic intensified the nightmare to biblical proportions.
Against all odds, the Resistance did not give up. In fact, it grew. We turned our homes into millions of hubs for digital activism. Field Team 6 built a first-of-its-kind database of millions of unregistered likely Democrats, and learned even more effective ways to register new Democrats to vote.
And in 2020, we walloped Trump, elected Biden and Harris, kept the House, and the Georgia Miracle sent us the two Senators who gave us a complete Democratic trifecta.
Trump launched an Insurrection. We hoped the second impeachment would save us. It did not.
We hoped the courts would save us. They did not.
In the following midterm election, history gave us a 93% chance of devastating losses. But we activists did not listen to the odds. We volunteered, donated, and poured ourselves into the work.
And in '22, we defied those odds – turning a Red Wave into more of a Rosé Spritz. We just barely lost the House, and added to our Senate majority.
As I write this, we are hoping for Jack Smith to save us, for Judge Merchan to save us, for Fani Willis to save us. But by now, we know the only thing we can really count on.
YOU. You save us. Every. Single. Time.
So remember – everything you do matters. Every time you show up, you reach out, you donate, you are writing the next chapter in one of the most inspiring stories ever told. The story of how Americans cared enough about each other to come together and save their democracy from a hateful, violent fascist movement. So let's keep doing all we can now to make sure this chapter has the ending it needs in November!
