In case your mind was not blown enough by the Democratic Convention, consider that it was put together in one month! Our bench is deep. Our talent is staggering. Our fight could not be more righteous. Democrats reclaimed joy, freedom, patriotism, and the flag. Here are three things that made me cry.
Tears when Hillary strode onstage, and all 20,000 people in the arena went wild. The applause was deafening, and every time she tried to begin, we refused to let her speak, drowning her out with more applause. So much was communicated in that applause, without a single word being spoken. It was so bittersweet and validating and emotional and electric. You should have won. Your grief is our grief. Your loss inspired an entire Resistance movement that has changed all our lives. Because of your journey and your sacrifice, we are on the precipice of history. Thank you for showing up. We will make this right.
Tears at the shot of Gus Walz sobbing and clearly saying “That’s my Dad!” through his tears. His joy was so pure and real and beautiful. And it put a perfect mirror to all our feelings about Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and the party and the convention. Better than any speech, Gus Walz’s tears of pride were the greatest moment of the convention.
Tears at the realization that while this convention was generating a national thunderstorm of joy, YOU – every Field Team 6 volunteer and donor – were out there capturing that lightning in a bottle, turning that electricity into new voters!! YOU sent over 2.6 million texts that week alone, in addition to all the emails, postcards, phone calls, social media posts, and in-person voter drives. Because of you, someone in North Carolina or Arizona or Wisconsin who was watching the convention, getting fired up, got a buzz on their phone… And 2 minutes later, was a registered Democrat.
What you are doing right now is saving the world.
68 days left… GO GO GO!! And when the wait for the November 5th election to be called is over (because we know it will take time to count every vote), let's enjoy a cathartic cry together: of joy, of relief, of pride it a job well done.
– Jason Berlin, Founder, Field Team 6
