WANNA GET ENGAGED?
Arizona Arcade! Daily dose of Jason! Chocolate!
As the COO of Field Team 6 I have the happy opportunity to cross paths with a wide swath of amazingly talented and dedicated volunteers from many walks of life every single day. In the first 19 or 20 months of the pandemic, exactly all of those interactions were over Zoom.
It was a little bit of a surprise that in early October of 2021 Field Team 6 was able to have an in-person fundraiser called Ballots Over Broadway. It’s produced annually by super-activist Jess Stamen and hosted (whenever Covid allows) in super-activist Jen Levin’s backyard in Los Angeles. Delta was on the way out and Omicron hadn’t reared its ugly head, and it seemed safe enough to get together with fellow vaxxer-activists outdoors wearing masks. I almost didn’t go.
I showed up a little early to see if there was any need to help set up and was almost immediately approached by a volunteer I only knew from Zoom who hugged me and immediately burst into tears. We were all a little emotional at being together in real life after so long so I didn’t think much about it. I won’t give you the blow by blow, but the night was magical, the music insanely moving, the stars shining. She and I ended up working one of the open bars together and the chemistry was like Pop Rocks but all over. We sat together, and as the chairs were being put away at the end of the evening I asked her out. She said yes and we’ve been together ever since.
This New Year’s holiday we were in Santa Fe staying in a beautiful adobe carriage house without cell phone service and spotty WiFi. I asked her to marry me. She said yes. For you gossip column lovers, yes, one knee was involved, no ring (because I knew she wanted her grandmother’s ring to be redesigned), but there was a poem I wrote for the occasion that stood in. Yes, it was a complete surprise.
So I am engaged!
There’s something just as beautiful as my fiancée that needs your commitment. It’s democracy. Ships have pronouns, and for this purpose I’m taking the literary liberty to give democracy pronouns. We’ve never been closer to losing her. We’ve never been blessed with more people who are working to save her.
Will you commit to doing whatever you can this year to register more pro-democracy voters where they are needed the most? I am asking you to get engaged too! If you can do one thing a day, or a week, or a month please do. Donating counts. Because what we do costs money.
Do you see the future we can create together? One of prosperity, freedoms for all, kindness and all the love we can handle?
I do.
– Dale Roy Robinson, COO, Field Team 6
