This Election Day, YOU MADE HISTORY. Again.
The story of the last seven years is the story of hundreds of thousands of good-hearted people across America waking up, meeting up, signing up, training up, and rising up into an unstoppable army of activists.
The day after Trump’s pathetic inauguration, the massive worldwide Women’s March showed us how, in the pain that united us, we could find a new strength.
In 2018, people from all walks of life learned how to volunteer and organize, and it WORKED. Our Blue Wave flipped the House by 40 seats. Proof of concept.
In 2020, we expelled the abomination from the White House and held onto the House. On January 5th, 2021, defying all odds in a Georgia Miracle, we won the Senate too.
Trump’s answer was to lead an insurrection to end our democracy. He failed. But MAGA Republicans continue the attack on voting rights and democracy itself nationwide, and in June ‘22, the Trump Supreme Court overturned Roe.
In November 2022, history gave us a 93% chance of devastating losses. We beat those odds. We turned what was supposed to be a Red Wave into more of a rosé spritz.
And now, in 2023, we flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court in April – we defeated MAGA cheating in Ohio in August – and just now, we struck a mighty blow for democracy.
In Kentucky, we re-elected Democratic Gov. Beshear by five points.
In Ohio, we enshrined permanent abortion rights in the state constitution in a 13-point landslide. And legalized marijuana by 14 points.
In Virginia, we won both houses of the state legislature, saving abortion rights and voting rights, and quashing the presidential ambitions of Gov. Youngkin, a MAGA wolf in a sheep's sweater vest.
In every one of these battles, the new Democratic voters you helped register were critical to margins of victory.
YOU DID THIS, every volunteer and volunteer staff member. YOU DID THIS, every donor and fundraising party host. YOU DID THIS, every partner organization on the ground, and every national partner who Field Team 6 has the honor to support. This victory is yours.
What you did mattered.
Your caring got others to care.
Your love changed history.
If this isn’t an epic redemption song for democracy, I don’t know what is.
If you are not heroes, I don’t know who is.
And if this doesn’t give you hope for 2024, I don’t know what will.
